Jocelyne Benzakin devoted herself to working with young photographers, helping them to develop their craft, vision and passion when others would not give them a chance.

To honor her spirit, the Jocelyne Benzakin Fellowship was recently created to provide aspiring photographers with the opportunity to continue their studies of documentary photography.

The fellowship will provide for 4 or 5 students who have graduated from the International Center of Photography's community programs in the South Bronx or East Harlem, or the Teen Academy, to attend classes at ICP’s midtown facility. This initiative should help these students to prepare for possible careers in photography.

Two experienced mentors from Jocelyne's extended community of photographers, editors and agents will work closely with these students over the course of a school year, and will advise them in the future. The JB Fellowship program will also work to provide these students with rewarding internships within the field of documentary photography.

While we are very excited to announce the launching of the JB Fellowship this coming fall, sustaining these annual opportunities requires your support. Through your contribution, these young photographers receive the means to pursue their education and Jocelyne’s legacy continues. Please be a part of this effort and let others know.

Checks can be made out to ICP, and marked “JB Fellowship” in the memo line.
